Inability to conceive, after 1 year of unprotected intercourse is termed as infertility. Primary infertility is inability to conceive after 1 year of trying and secondary infertility is when a female has had a previous pregnancy but unable to get pregnant after 6 month to 1 year of trying.

10% to 15% of population is affected with infertility . early investigation and prompt treatment Is advised in patients more than 35 years ( female partner) . patients less than 35 years can wait upto a year.

Husband semen analysis is the preferred investigation of choice for the male partner to rule out male factor. A detailed history with clinical examination, a pelvic sonography for antral follicle count and blood test are important to rule out female factor .
